Servings: 6-8 kids or grown-ups
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 45-50 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 big head of cabbage

  • 2 pounds ground beef

  • 3 cups cooked rice

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon garlic

  • 1 tablespoon parsley

  • 2 slices chopped onion

  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

  • 1 big can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce (mix into meat)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls: Directions

  1. Boil a pot of water and drop in the cabbage head. Pull off leaves one by one as they get soft.

  2. Use a sharp knife to cut away the hard end of each leaf.

  3. Mix everything together except the full 15-oz tomato sauce can and crushed tomatoes. Scoop a sausage-sized bit onto a leaf, roll it up tight like a fajita, and put it seam-side down in a casserole dish. Add some tomato sauce and 1-2 cabbage leaves on the bottom so the rolls don’t stick or burn.

  4. Pour crushed tomatoes over all the rolls.

  5. Cover the dish and bake at 375°F for about 75 minutes.

  6. Turn the oven down to 325°F and bake for 90 more minutes until the cabbage is nice and soft. Spoon sauce over the top every hour.

  7. Serve with extra tomato sauce on top.
