What You Need

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water, don’t drain

  • 3 cups low-salt chicken broth

  • 12 oz dry short pasta (like twists, tubes, or shells)

  • 1 1/2 cups frozen peas (no thaw needed)

Springtime Tuna Pasta Slow Cooker Making Steps

  1. Turn slow cooker to LOW. Dump undrained tuna cans in the bottom. Mash tuna a bit with a fork into chunks. Spread it flat. Tuna juice makes pasta tasty and wet.

  2. Pour broth over tuna. Don’t mix a lot—just cover tuna so edges don’t dry.

  3. Add dry pasta. Spread it out in the broth. Push it down with a spoon back. Some tips can stick up—they’ll get soft later.

  4. Put lid on. Cook on HIGH 1.5-2 hours, or LOW 3 hours, till pasta is soft but not mushy. Halfway, lift lid, stir gently, scrape bottom so pasta doesn’t stick. Put lid back fast.

  5. When pasta almost done (still a tiny crunch), mix in frozen peas. Stir good to spread them and unstick pasta.

  6. Lid on, HIGH for 10-15 minutes till peas are bright green and soft, pasta done. Broth mostly gone for saucy mix. Too wet? Lid off 5-10 minutes on WARM/LOW, stir to let steam out.

  7. Taste. Add salt and pepper if you want. Stir to mix tuna and peas. Serve hot right from cooker!
