Slow Cooker Tres Leches Cake

Slow Cooker Tres leches cake comes from Latin America and people there have loved it for a very long time. The cake soaks up three kinds of milk and gets super soft and creamy inside. The best part about this recipe is that you only need 5 things to make it, and the slow cooker does most of the hard work for you!

Servings: 8

What You Need

  • 1 plain sponge cake or pound cake (about 10–12 ounces) from the store
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How To Make Slow Cooker Tres Leches Cake

  1. Step 1 – Get the slow cooker ready
Rub a little butter or cooking oil all over the inside of your slow cooker. This keeps the cake from getting stuck to the bottom and sides.
  2. Step 2 – Cut the cake
Cut your store-bought cake into slices about 1 inch thick. If the slices are too big to fit, just cut them in half so they lay flat easily.
  3. Step 3 – Put the cake inside
Place the cake slices in the slow cooker so they cover the whole bottom. It is okay if some pieces overlap a little. Just try to make one even layer so the milk can soak in nicely.
  4. Step 4 – Mix the three milks
In a bowl, stir together the whole milk, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla. Keep stirring until everything is mixed well. It will look a little thick because of the condensed milk.
  5. Step 5 – Pour the milk over the cake
Slowly pour your milk mixture over all the cake slices. Try to cover every part. Then use the back of a spoon to gently push the cake down so it starts drinking up all that yummy milk. The cake will look very wet — that is exactly what you want!
  6. Step 6 – Cook it slowly
Cover the slow cooker with the lid and turn it to LOW. Let it cook for 2 to 3 hours. Start checking it at 2 hours. You will know it is ready when the cake looks puffy and shiny, and most of the milk is soaked in. There might be a little milk still sitting around the edges — that is totally fine.
  7. Step 7 – Let it rest
Turn the slow cooker off and take the lid off. Let the cake just sit there for about 20 to 30 minutes. This helps the last bit of milk soak all the way through so every bite is moist and delicious.
  8. Step 8 – Serve and enjoy!
Scoop the warm cake into bowls. Make sure each bowl gets some of the creamy milk from the bottom. If you like your dessert cold, just let the slow cooker cool down, cover it, and put it in the fridge for at least 2 hours before eating.

Quick Tip

This cake tastes amazing with a little whipped cream on top! You can also add some fresh strawberries or a sprinkle of cinnamon to make it extra special. 🍓
