Slow Cooker Beef Tips – Step-by-Step Directions
- Spray the inside of a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray, which can be washed easily, in the event that one wants to do so.
- Place the beef stew meat in the slow cooker but in an even layer to ensure that the pieces are relatively flat.
- Combine the condensed cream of mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix and the beef broth (or water) in a medium bowl and whisk it until it is nearly smooth and well blended. It will be fat–that you want a good gravy to be.
- Pour the soup mixture over the beef, making sure it is fully coated. Gradually force the spatula to stir the paste up and down between the beef pieces.
- Place the lid over the slow cooker. Stir not and lift not the lid any more–this is the or no peek stage that will make the beef even tenderer and will keep the gravy warm and pleasant.
- Cook on either LOW or HIGH, 7 to 8 hours or 4 to 5 hours, until the beef is extremely tender and readily tears to pieces with a fork. Do not lift the lid when cooking to ensure that the cooking heat and moisture are retained.
- When the time to cook is over, place the lid aside and stir everything gently. The beef must be covered with a rich earthy brown mushroom gravy with pieces of mushrooms visible in the soup.
- Taste the gravy and pinch a little black pepper or sprinkle a little beef broth to make it a little thin. Salt is not much required due to the soup and soup mix, but make according to your family taste.
- Garnish the beef tips with hot stuff over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, rice and spoon the thick gravy on top.
