Slow Cooker Amish Swiss Steak (Only 4 Ingredients!). This simple slow cooker Swiss steak is pure comfort food! Tender beef simmers all day in juicy tomatoes and sweet onions, making a rich, hearty meal your whole family will love — ready with almost zero effort.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds beef round steak, about ½-inch thick, trimmed and cut into 4 pieces
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) stewed tomatoes, with all the juice
- 1 medium yellow onion, cut into thin slices
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper (you can add this when serving if you want)
Slow Cooker Amish Swiss Steak: Directions
- Lay the steak pieces flat on the bottom of your slow cooker (4 to 6 quarts). Try to keep them in one layer as much as you can. A little overlapping is okay.
- Put the sliced onions on top of the steak. Push some onion slices down along the sides too, so they can mix into the juices as everything cooks.
- Sprinkle the salt all over the steak and onions. This helps bring out all the good flavors in the meat.
- Open your can of stewed tomatoes and pour the whole thing — juice and all — right over the top. Some pieces of steak may still peek through, and that is perfectly fine.
- Put the lid on your slow cooker. Cook on LOW for 7 to 8 hours, or on HIGH for 3½ to 4 hours. The steak is done when it is very soft and you can pull it apart easily with a fork.
- Give the sauce a little taste. Add more salt if you think it needs it. Stir in the black pepper if you like a tiny bit of kick.
- Serve the steak nice and hot with plenty of that yummy tomato and onion sauce poured right over the top. You can keep the pieces whole or pull the meat apart right into the sauce. It tastes amazing over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or white rice!
💡 Tip: The longer you let it cook on LOW, the softer and more flavorful the meat gets!
