Slow Cooker Amish Sour Cream Beef

Slow Cooker Amish Sour Cream Beef
Slow Cooker Amish Sour Cream Beef

This slow cooker Amish sour cream beef is a simple, comforting dinner that’s good enough to make again and again. With just four main ingredients, a small beef roast turns into a rich, creamy meal without much work at all. This dish follows the plain, hearty style you often see in Amish cooking, where cheap, simple ingredients and slow, gentle cooking come together to make a really satisfying meal.

Serve this beef over mashed potatoes, buttered egg noodles, or steamed rice so you don’t waste any of that creamy gravy. A side of green beans, glazed carrots, or a crunchy cucumber salad helps balance out the richness, and warm dinner rolls are always a nice touch for soaking up extra sauce.

Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 beef petite roast, about 2½ to 3 pounds
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix, about 1 ounce
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup, 10½ ounces
  • 1 cup sour cream

Slow Cooker Amish Sour Cream Beef: Directions

  1. Get the slow cooker ready. If you’d like easier cleanup later, spray the inside of the slow cooker crock lightly with cooking spray. Place the beef petite roast right in the middle of the slow cooker so it sits flat on the bottom.
  2. Add the soup and seasoning. Spoon the condensed cream of mushroom soup over the top of the roast, spreading it out so it covers most of the meat. Then sprinkle the dry onion soup mix evenly across the top, making sure it doesn’t just pile up in one spot.
  3. Top with sour cream. Spoon the sour cream over the roast in an even layer, spreading it gently with the back of the spoon so it covers as much of the meat as you can. Don’t worry about covering it perfectly — it will spread more as it cooks.
  4. Cook low and slow. Put the lid on the slow cooker. Cook on LOW for 7 to 8 hours, or on HIGH for 4 to 5 hours. The beef is done when it’s so tender it falls apart easily when you poke it with a fork.
  5. Shred and mix. Once the beef is fully cooked, use two forks to shred it right in the slow cooker, or slice it into smaller pieces. Gently stir the meat into the creamy sauce so every bite gets coated, then serve it warm.
