  • 2 cups mashed potatoes

  • 1 cup corn kernels

Gravy

  • 3 tablespoons pan drippings (or oil)

  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups milk

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Chicken Fried Steak: Directions

  1. Put the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika in a shallow bowl and mix them.

  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs and milk together until they are smooth and mixed well.

  3. Coat each cube steak with the seasoned flour, then dip into the egg mix, and press into the flour again so it is fully covered.

  4. Heat a layer of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

  5. Fry each steak 4–5 minutes on one side, then flip and fry 4–5 minutes more, until they are golden brown and crispy.

  6. Move cooked steaks to a plate and keep warm.

  7. To make gravy, leave about 3 tablespoons of drippings or oil in the skillet and pour out extra oil if there is too much.

  8. Add 3 tablespoons of flour to the pan and mix it well. Keep mixing it for about one minute so the flour gets cooked.

  9. Slowly pour in 2 cups of milk while stirring so the sauce becomes smooth. Cook until it is thick.

  10. Taste the gravy, then add salt and black pepper if needed.

  11. Serve each steak on a plate, pour gravy over the steak, add mashed potatoes topped with more gravy, and put corn on the side.
