Baked Beans Amish: Instructions

  1. Place a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker on the counter and remove the lid.

  2. Add the rinsed and drained navy beans to the slow cooker in an even layer.

  3. Pour molasses over the beans to allow the flavor to seep in during cooking.

  4. Add ketchup, brown sugar, and kosher salt. Stir until all beans are covered and the sauce looks evenly mixed.

  5. Cover and bake on LOW for 5–6 hours or HIGH for 2½–3 hours until beans are bubbling and the sauce is slightly thickened.

  6. Taste and adjust seasoning with extra salt or molasses if needed. If sauce is too thick, add 2–4 tablespoons of hot water and mix.

  7. Move beans to a serving dish or keep in the slow cooker on WARM. Serve hot, spooning some of the thick molasses sauce over each serving.
