Slow Cooker Root Beer Beef Meatballs

Slow cooker root beer beef meatballs are the kind of easy party food I turn to again and again. When I need something warm, saucy, and simple for game day, a potluck, or a holiday get-together, this is my go-to. Using frozen, already-cooked meatballs and just a few ingredients makes prep super quick and easy. The mix of flat root beer, barbecue sauce, and one more simple ingredient creates a sweet and savory flavor that people can’t stay away from.

You can serve these meatballs right out of the slow cooker with toothpicks for a fun, easy appetizer. Or, spoon them over mashed potatoes, white rice, or buttered egg noodles to make them into a full dinner. If you’re setting up a snack table, they go really well with coleslaw, potato wedges, baked beans, pretzel bites, or a fresh veggie tray to balance out the rich, sticky sauce.

These slow cooker root beer meatballs turn frozen meatballs into a sweet, sticky party favorite with almost no effort. Just four simple ingredients combine into a rich, glossy sauce that coats every bite. Perfect for game days, potlucks, or holiday spreads, this easy recipe is always a hit and needs very little hands-on cooking time.

Servings: 10

Ingredients

  • 1 bag (32 ounces) frozen meatballs that are already cooked
  • 1 can (12 ounces) root beer, opened early so it goes flat before using
  • 1 bottle (18 ounces) barbecue sauce (your favorite kind works fine)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Slow Cooker Root Beer Beef Meatballs: irections

  1. Add the meatballs. Place the frozen, precooked beef meatballs straight into the slow cooker. There’s no need to thaw them first — they’ll heat and cook fully as the slow cooker does its work.
  2. Pour in the sauce ingredients. Slowly pour the flat root beer over the meatballs so it spreads out evenly. Then add the barbecue sauce and the Worcestershire sauce on top, making sure both cover the meatballs as much as possible.
  3. Stir gently. Using a large spoon, gently stir everything together so the sauce coats each meatball. Try not to break the meatballs apart while stirring. Once coated, put the lid on the slow cooker.
  4. Cook until hot and saucy. Set the slow cooker to LOW and cook for 4 to 5 hours, or set it to HIGH and cook for 2 to 3 hours. If you can, stir once or twice partway through so the sauce cooks evenly. The meatballs are done when they’re fully heated and the sauce has thickened into a shiny, glossy coating.
  5. Serve warm. Once cooked, switch the slow cooker to the WARM setting. You can serve the meatballs straight from the pot with toothpicks for easy snacking, or spoon them into a serving bowl if you’re setting up for a party or potluck table.
