Slow Cooker Poor Man Ribs 4 Ing

Slow Cooker Poor Man Ribs 4 Ing.

This low-cost meal that my grandmother prepared on a regular basis in the spring. The meat comes off the bone using only 4 ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Country-style pork ribs with the bone → 3 to 4 pounds
  • Large yellow onion, thinly sliced → 1
  • Barbecue sauce → 1 bottle (18-20 ounces)
  • Cola or root beer (not diet) → 1/2 cup

Slow Cooker Poor Man Ribs: Instructions

  1. Spray the interior side of a large slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray to ensure it is easy to clean.
  2. Evenly sprinkle the onion sliced in thick slices all over the bottom of the slow cooker to form a bed on which the ribs will lie.
  3. Dry the country-style pork ribs with paper towels and cut off any large and excessive fat as you wish. Lay ribs which are laid in a single layer (or even slightly overlapping) upon the onions.
  4. Combine the barbecue sauce and the cola or root beer in a medium sized bowl or a large measuring cup, and mix until well blended.
  5. Evenly pour the barbecue sauce mixture over the ribs to push them a little up with a spoon or tongs to allow the sauce to flow underneath and cover all. Be sure the onions are added into the sauce a little it will tenderize and dissolve into the glaze as it cooks.
  6. Lay the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW 7-8 hours or HIGH 3 1/2-4 hours until the ribs are very tender and the meat is just starting to fall off the bone pulling with a fork.
  7. When it is finished, rip the ribs off using tongs or slotted spoon, they will be very tender and any extra sauce can drip back into the slow cooker. Add the onions stirring them well in the sauce.
  8. Warm the ribs and pour much of the delicious, dark red barbecue-onion sauce over the surface. You can also remove all the fat that you may have on the surface of the sauce, which you want to remove, before the serving time.
