Servings: 6
Ingredients
- 3 to 3½ pounds sliced rump roast
- 1 packet dry onion soup mix
- 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup burgundy wine
Slow Cooker Labor Day Roast: Directions
- Get the slow cooker ready. Lightly coat the inside of your slow cooker with a little cooking spray or a thin layer of oil. This isn’t required, but it makes cleanup a lot easier later on.
- Add the beef. Lay the sliced rump roast pieces inside the slow cooker. Let them overlap just a little bit so they all sit close together and cook evenly in the sauce.
- Mix the sauce. In a medium-sized bowl, stir together the dry onion soup mix, the condensed cream of mushroom soup, and the burgundy wine. Keep stirring until the mixture looks smooth with no lumps left.
- Pour the sauce over the beef. Slowly pour the sauce mixture over the top of the roast slices, making sure every piece gets covered well. This helps the meat soak up all that flavor as it cooks.
- Cook it low and slow. Put the lid on the slow cooker. Cook on low flame about 7 -8 hrs, or on high heat for 4 -5 hours. You’ll know it’s done when the beef is very tender and falls apart easily with a fork.
- Serve it up. Before serving, spoon some of the warm sauce over the roast to add extra flavor and moisture. Serve it hot with your favorite side dishes while it’s nice and warm.
