Slow Cooker Kickoff Beef: When you want a meal that’s filling, easy, and won’t stress you out, this 3-Ingredient Slow Cooker Kickoff Beef is just right. It has that fun potluck feeling that many of us who grew up in the Midwest know well: a nice cut of beef, a bold tasty sauce, and a slow cooker that does all the hard work while your whole house starts to smell amazing. Using a shredded beef brisket flat gives you soft, juicy strands of meat that are perfect for piling onto buns or scooping onto plates when you’re feeding a crowd.
This beef tastes great on toasted buns topped with pickles, coleslaw, or a spoonful of potato salad on the side. For a game day party or backyard get-together, I like to lay it out like a buffet with small slider rolls, baked beans, macaroni salad, crunchy chips, and a tray of fresh onions and peppers so everyone can build their own sandwich just how they like it.
Servings: 8
Ingredients
- 3 pounds beef brisket flat
- 1 bottle (18 ounces) barbecue sauce
- 1 packet (1 ounce) dry onion soup mix
Slow Cooker Kickoff Beef: Directions
- Add the beef. Place the beef brisket flat into the bottom of your slow cooker, laying it as flat as you can so it cooks evenly on all sides.
- Season and sauce it. Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix evenly across the top of the brisket, making sure it covers most of the meat. Then pour the barbecue sauce slowly over the top, spreading it around so the whole piece of beef gets a nice, even coating.
- Cook it low and slow. Cover the slow cooker with its lid and set it to cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours. You’ll know it’s done when the beef is so soft it falls apart the moment you poke it with a fork.
- Shred the meat. Using two forks, pull the beef apart right there in the slow cooker, breaking it into thin, tender strands. Stir the shredded beef around so it soaks up all the tasty juices and sauce sitting at the bottom.
- Serve it up. Spoon the hot, saucy beef onto buns for sandwiches, or serve it plain on a plate next to your favorite cookout sides. Either way, it’s ready to enjoy while it’s warm.
