Makes: 6 helpings
What You Need
-
2 pounds ready-to-eat smoked sausage or kielbasa, cut into ½-inch circles
-
2 boxes (16 ounces each) frozen potato-cheese pierogies
-
1 big yellow onion, cut into thin slices
-
½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted (no salt added)
How to Make Sausage and Pierogies Slow Cooker
-
Rub a little butter or spray inside a 5-6 quart slow cooker so nothing sticks.
-
Put the onion slices flat on the bottom. They make a yummy base that keeps pierogies from sticking and adds sweet flavor.
-
Lay frozen pierogies over the onions in one layer. They can overlap a tiny bit, but don’t squish them tight for even cooking.
-
Sprinkle sausage circles all over the top so every bite has some later.
-
Drizzle melted butter nice and even over everything. It turns into a tasty sauce while cooking.
-
Put the lid on tight. Cook on LOW 3-4 hours till pierogies are soft, onions are mushy, and sausage is warm. Don’t peek for the first 2 hours!
-
Stir gently from the bottom to mix onions, sausage, and pierogies in the butter sauce. Add a tiny bit of salt or pepper if you like.
-
Scoop hot into bowls with lots of sausage, soft pierogies, and onions in that yummy sauce.
