Honey Garlic Pork Roast in Slower Cooker. This came as an easy way of Sunday dinners before church in spring that was shared by our neighbor. Take 5 ordinary things and put them in the pot and leave the low heat to do its work.
Servings: 6
Ingredients
-
3 to 3 1/2 pounds pork shoulder bone less or pork butt roast, trimmed of excess hard fat.
-
1 cup honey
-
1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
-
6 cloves garlic, chopped (approximately 2 Tablespoons)
-
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
Honey Garlic Pork Roast: Directions
-
Put the pork roast in the bottom of a 5- to 7-quart slow cooker pieces side facing upward should there be a cap of fat left. This enables the fat to baste the meat gradually like it cooks and keeps the meat very juicy.
-
Combine the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic and apple cider vinegar in a medium bowl until all the liquid is dissolved and the mixture appears smooth and shiners.
-
Spoon the honey garlic mix until it is evenly distributed on the pork roast, and roll the roast using tongs to ensure that every part is covered. Return the roast in the liquid so that the thicker part is largely covered by the liquid.
-
Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on LOW 8 to 10 hours or until the pork becomes very tender and it can be easily shredded with a fork. Do not open the lid within the initial few hours to maintain a constant amount of heat and even cooking of the meat.
-
When the pork becomes fork-tender, move the roast to a large bowl or cutting board, and leave all of the cooking liquid in the slow cooker. Shred the pork with two forks into bite-size pieces, and discard any big pieces of fat.
-
Remove any surplus fat that may be lying on the surface of the cooking liquid in the slow cooker. To have an even slicker and richer sauce, switch the slow cooker to HIGH and allow the liquid to simmer uncovered 15 to 20 minutes, stirring every now and then, until it reduces and becomes glossy.
-
Add the shredded pork back to the slow cooker and stir it well in the warm honey garlic sauce until all the strands are covered and the meat appears to be shiny and moist. Add taste and add a drizzle of vinegar or drizzle of honey should you wish it was a little tangier or sweeter.
-
Allow the pork to rest on the WARM on the 10-15 minutes to imbibe additional sauce. Put the honey garlic pork on a platter or out of the slow cooker, and drizzle or pour the extra thick sauce over the top of the meat so that it glistens and is kept juicy.
