Servings: 6
Ingredients
- 2 cans (28 ounces each) baked beans
- 1 package (about 12 to 16 ounces) frozen beef franks
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
Backyard Beef Franks: Directions
- Lay the franks in the slow cooker. Take your frozen beef franks and set them down in one flat, even layer along the bottom of the slow cooker. Try not to stack them on top of each other — spreading them out in a single layer helps every frank cook evenly and heat all the way through without any cold spots.
- Pour the beans over the franks. Open both cans of baked beans and pour them evenly across the top of the franks. Use a spoon to spread the beans out so they cover most of the meat, tucking a little into the gaps between the franks so nothing is left dry.
- Drizzle on the barbecue sauce. Slowly pour the barbecue sauce over the top of the beans and franks. Let it sit on top instead of stirring it in right away — as everything cooks, the sauce will slowly melt down and soak into the beans and meat, building up that sweet, smoky flavor.
- Cover and cook. Put the lid on your slow cooker. If you have more time, cook on low heat for 4 to 5 hours. If you’re in a hurry, cook on high heat for 2 to 3 hours instead. You’ll know it’s done once the sausages are piping hot in the centre and you can see the beans gently simmering at the edges.
- Stir and serve. Once the cooking time is up, gently stir everything together so the beans, sauce, and franks mix evenly. Serve the mixture warm in bowls on its own, or tuck the franks into soft buns and pile on your favorite toppings, like shredded cheese, chopped onions, or pickles.
