Ingredients

  • Beef round steak (approximately 1 inch thick) 2 lbs.

  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 can (28 ounces) drained stewed tomatoes.

Amish Tomato Steak: Instructions

  1. Place the round steak of beef on a cutting board and remove any big bits of excess fat you would like. Divide the steak into 3-4 big portions to fit in your slow cooker or cut it into one whole item depending on whether it fits into your cooker.

  2. Sprinkle the beef round steak on both sides equally with the kosher salt and black pepper. Put the experienced steak pieces in the bottom of a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker, and pile them in one layer as much as you can.

  3. Break the stewed tomatoes can, and stir it lightly with a spoon in order to dissolve any large pieces. Evenly spread the stewed tomatoes and all its liquids all over the raw beef round steak within the slow cooker ensuring that most of the meat is covered.

  4. Put the slow cooker with the lid and cook on LOW or HIGH based on the chosen time of 7-8 hours or 3 1/2-4 hours until the beef round steak is very tender and can be pulled apart using a fork.

  5. After cooking, the tomato sauce should be tasted and seasoned with a bit more salt and pepper, should it be necessary. Take two forks and pull the steak into large rustic pieces directly inside the slow cooker, or place it in larger steak-size pieces, as you like.

  6. Place the Amish tomato steak on your table and pour on the stewed tomatoes and juices over the beef and the type of potato, noodles, or rice you like. Keep leftovers in an airtight container within the fridge and it lasts up to 3 days; the better the next day.
