Amish Ham and Pea Noodles. This is a warm and simple slow cooker dinner. It has ham, peas, and soft noodles. The broth and cream make it rich and tasty. It is easy and great for family meals.
Ingredients

Amish Ham and Pea Noodles
-
1/2 pounds boneless ham steak or ham leftover, which has been cut into 1/2-inch cubes.
-
3 cups of frozen green peas (approximately 12 ounces)
-
4 cups low sodium chicken broth.
-
12 ounces wide egg noodles (approximately 6 cups dry)
-
1 cup heavy cream (1/2 half-and-half light version)
Amish Ham and Pea Noodles: Directions
-
Set the slow cooker crock on a firm surface, e.g. a black granite counter. Evenly spread the ham that is diced on the bottom of the slow cooker.
-
Put the frozen peas directly over the ham to create a thin layer that covers the ham largely. This is so layered as to keep the ham moist as the peas thaw and cook gradually.
-
Put the ham and peas into the chicken broth. Place a spoon which should be used gently to ensure that most of the ham and peas are submerged. Place lid on the slow cooker.
-
Bake on LOW between 4 and 5 hours or HIGH between 2 and 2 1/2 hours or until the peas are tender and the broth is hot and tasty.
-
Approximately 30-40 minutes prior to serving time, the dry egg noodles should be added and they should preponderantly be immersed in the hot liquid. In case it is not covered with noodles, add a splash of additional broth or water when necessary.
-
Cook on HIGH 20 to 30 minutes, stirring once or twice, until noodles are barely tender. Due to the time of your slow cooker and the noodles brand, cooking time may be a few minutes different, so begin checking at 15 minutes.
-
After the noodles become tender, change the heat to LOW or to WARM. Add the heavy cream and stir until the sauce appears to be cast in a silky and faintly creamy manner. Taste and season to taste; you need no more salt in the ham and broth, so you might just desire a touch of black pepper.
-
Allow the mixture time to thicken slightly and heat the noodles as the mixture soaks into the noodles, remove the cover and leave the mixture to rest 5 to 10 minutes. Stir it once more and serve warm out of the slow cooker.
