Servings: 4 to 6
Ingredients
- 1 frozen raw beef tongue (about 2 1/2 to 3 pounds)
- 2 cans sliced potatoes, drained
- 1 packet onion soup mix
- 1 cup beef broth
Slow Cooker Poor Man Back-to-School Beef: Directions
- Add the beef tongue to the pot. Place the frozen raw beef tongue into the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker. Make sure it sits flat so it cooks evenly.
- Sprinkle on the seasoning. Open the packet of onion soup mix and sprinkle it evenly over the top of the beef tongue, covering as much of the surface as you can.
- Add the broth and potatoes. Slowly pour the beef broth around the sides of the beef tongue, being careful not to wash off the seasoning. Then, take the drained sliced potatoes and spread them evenly over the top of the meat.
- Cook until tender. Put the lid on the slow cooker and set it to cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours, or until the beef feels very soft and tender when poked with a fork. Once it’s done, carefully lift the tongue out and place it on a cutting board. While it’s still warm, peel off the tough outer skin, then slice the meat into thin pieces.
- Serve it up. If you’d like, place the sliced beef back into the slow cooker so it can soak in the warm juices for a few minutes. Serve everything hot, along with the potatoes, and spoon some of the broth over each plate before serving.
