Amish Cube Steak Brown Gravy In Slow Cooker. Cube steaks are raw, and when paired with 3 other ingredients and poured into a slow cooker, this forms a hearty weeknight meal, and that is the first suggestion I have.

Ingredients
Amish Cube Steak Brown Gravy In Slow Cooker
-
1.5 to 2 pounds cut-up steak (cube) (approximately 4 pieces)
-
2 (10.5-ounce) cans condensed brown gravy or brown gravy sauce
-
4 large (russet or yellow) potatoes, peeled and cut in 1/2-inch slices
-
1 large yellow onion, sliced
-
1 packet (1 ounce) dry vegetable soup mix (onion)
Amish Cube Steak Brown Gravy: Directions
-
Cut a small slice of oil or cooking spray and lightly grease the inside of a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker to make it easier to clean.
-
Arrange the sliced potatoes in the slow cooker and then sprinkle the sliced onion over the potatoes.
-
Put the uncooked cube steaks in a single layer on top of the onions and potatoes. It is no big deal whether they intersect slightly, although attempt to make them mostly flat, so that they become an even cook.
-
Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix evenly on the top of the uncooked cube steaks.
-
Combine the condensed brown gravy with approximately 1 /2 to 1 cup of water in a bowl or large measuring cup and whisk until smooth and pourable. You would have it fat but not mealy.
-
Evenly pour the brown gravy mixture over the raw cube steaks allowing it to flow down around the potatoes and onions. The meat must be largely covered by gravy, as in a warm blanket.
-
Place the lid over the slow cooker and cook on LOW 6 to 8 hours and on HIGH 3 to 4 hours until the cube steaks are extremely tender and the potatoes are soft when a fork is poked into them.
-
Taste the gravy and add a bit of salt and black pepper in case of seasoning. The onion soup mix and gravy are typically very salty and thus, add taste before adding additional salt.
-
Cube steaks may be served hot, with a good portion of the brown gravy and tender onions and potatoes dropped upon each portion.
