Beef Gyro Strips Slow Cooker. This easy slow cooker beef gyro recipe turns frozen beef strips into a tender, juicy meal with just five simple ingredients. Toss everything in, walk away, and come back to a warm, flavorful dinner the whole family will love.

Do you need a dinner that basically makes itself? This slow cooker beef gyro recipe is just what you need. You only need five things from your kitchen, and one of them is a bag of frozen beef gyro strips straight from the freezer. You do not even have to thaw them. Just throw everything into the slow cooker, put the lid on, and go about your day. By the time dinner rolls around, the beef will be soft, juicy, and full of great flavor. Stuff it in a pita, put it on rice, or wrap it up in a tortilla. However your family likes it, this meal will make everyone happy — even on the busiest nights.

When it is time to eat, set everything out so people can make their own plates. Put out warm pita bread or soft flour tortillas, some shredded lettuce, tomato slices, and a little red onion. Add a spoonful of tzatziki sauce or plain Greek yogurt on top. You can also serve the beef over rice or buttered noodles with some green beans or a simple cucumber salad on the side. Letting everyone build their own plate makes dinner fun and keeps picky eaters happy too.

Beef Gyro Strips: Directions

  1. Rub the olive oil all around the inside of a 4 to 6 quart slow cooker. Use a paper towel or your fingers to coat the bottom and sides so the meat does not stick.
  2. Spread the sliced onion out across the bottom of the slow cooker in an even layer. The onions will sit under the meat and keep it from sticking while adding a nice sweet and savory taste as everything cooks.
  3. Place the frozen beef gyro strips right on top of the onions. Do not worry if the strips are clumped together. They will slowly pull apart as they cook and heat up.
  4. Sprinkle the dried Greek or Italian seasoning all over the top of the frozen beef strips. Try to spread it out so every piece gets some flavor.
  5. Pour the beef broth around the edges and over the top of the meat. The broth makes steam inside the slow cooker that keeps the beef nice and moist the whole time it cooks.
  6. Put the lid on the slow cooker. Cook it on LOW flame for 4 – 5 hrs and on HIGH heat for 2 – 3 hrs. The beef is ready when it is very tender and hot all the way through. Check it a little early since every slow cooker is a bit different.
  7. About halfway through the cooking time, take the lid off and give everything a gentle stir. This helps break apart any strips that are still stuck together and mixes the juices and onions around evenly. Put the lid back on right away so the heat stays in.
  8. When the beef is done, stir everything one more time. Give it a quick taste. If it needs a little more flavor, add a small pinch of salt or a bit more seasoning. Keep in mind that the gyro strips may already be well seasoned, so taste first before adding anything.
  9. Use a slotted spoon to scoop the beef and onions into warm pitas, over rice, or whatever your family enjoys most. Spoon a little of the tasty cooking liquid over the top if you like extra flavor and juiciness.
