What You Need

  • 500g ground beef (like hamburger meat)

  • 1 small onion, chopped tiny

  • 2 garlic pieces, smashed small

  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs

  • 1 egg

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 2 spoons ketchup

  • 1 spoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tiny spoon salt

  • 1/2 tiny spoon black pepper

  • 4 big potatoes, skins off and cut up

  • 3 spoons butter

  • 1/3 cup milk or cream

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 spoons butter (for gravy)

  • 2 spoons flour

  • 2 cups beef juice (broth)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to Make Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes with Gravy

  1. Heat oven to 180°C (that’s 350°F). Mix beef, onion, garlic, crumbs, egg, milk, ketchup, sauce, salt, and pepper in a bowl till sticky.
  2. Shape into a long loaf. Put in a pan. Bake 45-55 minutes till done and brown.
  3. Boil potatoes in salty water till soft. Pour out water. Smash with butter, milk, and salt till fluffy.
  4. For gravy: Melt butter in pan on medium. Stir in flour 1-2 minutes. Slowly add beef juice, stir till thick. Add salt and pepper.
  5. Cut meatloaf, put on potatoes, pour gravy all over. Dig in!
