What You Need

  • 8 ounces of ham, already cooked and cut into small pieces
  • 2 cups of small, dry pasta (like mini shells, small elbows, or penne — not cooked yet!)
  • 2 cups of heavy cream (you can also use half-and-half if you want it a little lighter)
  • 2 cups of shredded cheese (cheddar, Colby Jack, or any cheese that melts well)

How To Make Creamy Ham Pasta Packets

  1. Rip off 4 big pieces of heavy foil. Each piece should be about 12 inches by 12 inches. If your foil is thin, use two layers so it doesn’t rip.
  2. Fold up the edges of each foil piece a little bit, just enough to make a small bowl shape. This keeps the cream from spilling while you fill it up.
  3. Put an equal amount of dry pasta in the middle of each foil piece.
  4. Add the ham pieces on top of the pasta in each one.
  5. Pour half a cup of cream over the pasta and ham in each pack. Try to get the cream on as much of the pasta as you can.
  6. Put half a cup of shredded cheese on top of everything in each pack.
  7. Now close up the packs! Pull the sides of the foil up and press the edges together tightly. Fold and squeeze the ends shut too. You don’t want any cream to sneak out. Make sure each pack is nice and tight.
  8. Put all 4 packs into your slow cooker with the folded side facing up. Try to lay them flat in one layer. It’s totally fine if they touch each other.
  9. Put the lid on the slow cooker. Cook on LOW for 3 and a half to 4 hours. You’ll know they’re ready when the pasta is soft and everything inside has turned into a creamy, cheesy sauce.
  10. Turn off the slow cooker and let the packs sit for about 5 minutes. Use tongs to pick them up carefully — they’ll be really hot!
  11. Optional: If you want, brush a little melted butter on the outside of each warm pack to make them look shiny and pretty. You don’t have to do this step.
  12. Put one pack on each person’s plate and let everyone open their own pack at the table. Use a fork to gently mix everything inside before you eat. Enjoy!
